How to Track Days Since an Event on iPhone
Set up a days-since counter for an anniversary, milestone, habit, or personal record and keep it visible with an iPhone widget.
A days-since counter measures the distance from a past date to today. It can mark a relationship anniversary, project launch, personal milestone, or the start of a habit. Unlike a calendar reminder, it makes elapsed time visible every day.
Choose a start date with a clear meaning
Decide what counts as day zero: the day an event happened, the first full day after it, or the date a new routine began. Different apps and people may describe the count differently, so consistency matters more than the label.
For sensitive habits or health-related milestones, choose wording that feels supportive rather than punitive.
Create a count-forward event
In Orbit, add the original date and choose the count-forward or “since” direction. Give it a short title that works on a widget. Add a photo or color only if it helps you recognize the event instantly.
Put the counter where it serves the goal
- Home Screen: good for projects, habits, and milestones you want to see during the day.
- Lock Screen: useful for one high-priority count you want at a glance.
- Today View or widget stack: better when you want access without permanent visual prominence.
Apple supports widgets in these locations, although exact sizes and interactions vary by iOS version.
Use the number as information
Elapsed time can motivate, but the number should not become a substitute for the behavior or relationship it represents. Pair a project count with the next action, an anniversary with a reminder to connect, or a habit count with a plan for difficult days.
Check date and time settings
If the count looks wrong, verify the event date, device time zone, and whether the event includes a specific time. Traveling across time zones can change when a calendar day rolls over.
Orbit can count down to future moments or forward from past ones, with visual rings and iPhone widgets that keep the passage of time easy to see.
