How to Make an Anniversary Countdown Widget
Build a personal anniversary countdown widget with the right date, repeat behavior, photo, and Home Screen or Lock Screen placement.
An anniversary countdown widget turns an annual date into something visible and personal. A good setup avoids date ambiguity, repeats correctly, and remains readable against your wallpaper.
Confirm the exact date
For birthdays and calendar anniversaries, use the local calendar date. If the event began at a specific time in another time zone, decide whether the date or the exact instant matters to you. Most personal anniversaries are clearer when treated as an all-day event.
Choose whether it repeats
An annual anniversary should roll forward after the date passes. A one-time wedding, trip, or launch countdown should stop or become a days-since event. Check the repeat setting before placing the widget so it does not continue counting toward an outdated year.
Write a compact title
Small widgets have limited space. “Our anniversary,” “Maya’s birthday,” or “Launch day” is easier to scan than a full sentence. Keep private wording in mind if the widget will appear on a Lock Screen others can see.
Select a visual that still reads well
A meaningful photo can make the countdown warmer, but detailed images may compete with text. Choose a simple crop and sufficient contrast. A color-only design is often more legible on a small Lock Screen widget.
Place it based on frequency
Use the Lock Screen for a near-term event you want to notice often. Use the Home Screen for a longer countdown or several related events. A widget stack can hold multiple countdowns while using less space, although the visible item can rotate.
Pair anticipation with an action
Add a separate calendar reminder for bookings, gifts, calls, or preparation. A countdown creates awareness; it does not replace task planning.
Orbit lets you customize progress rings, count down or forward, use personal imagery, and place important journeys on the iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen.
